Postnatal Pilates in Blandford: A Gentle, Evidence-Based Way to Recover After Birth

Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most transformative experiences, but it can also bring profound physical and emotional changes. At Vagabond Pilates, we’re excited to introduce a supportive, expert-led way to help you reconnect with your body, and mind, after birth.

Our instructor Shauni, who is perinatal-trained, is launching a 5-week postnatal Pilates course designed specifically for mums. Whether you are a first-time mum or this is your tenth(!), this is the place for you.

Starting 17 April at 10:30am, this course is ideal for anyone who has given birth within the last 6 months and is ready to begin their recovery journey in a safe, supportive, and fun environment.

Why Postnatal Movement Matters

After pregnancy and childbirth, your body needs time, care, and the right kind of movement to heal. Research shows that targeted postnatal exercise, particularly Pilates, can play a vital role in recovery.

Evidence-based benefits of postnatal Pilates include:

Postnatal classes will be held in the Blandford Studio.

Improved pelvic floor strength

Studies show that guided pelvic floor exercises can significantly reduce the risk of urinary incontinence postpartum.

Support for diastasis recti recovery
Pilates-based core rehabilitation helps gently re-engage deep abdominal muscles, promoting healing of abdominal separation.

Better posture and reduced back pain
Pregnancy can alter posture and can lead to lower back, shoulder, and neck pain. Pilates helps realign the body and reduce strain on the spine.

Enhanced mental wellbeing
Movement, breathwork, and mindful exercise are linked to reduced symptoms of postnatal depression and anxiety.

Improved mobility and stability
Focused work on the hips and pelvis restores balance and functional movement in everyday life.

What to Expect from Our 5-Week Course

This course has been carefully designed to support your recovery in a progressive, safe way. Over five weeks, you’ll gently rebuild strength and connection in your body.

We’ll focus on:

  • Recovery from birth (both vaginal and C-section)

  • Breathwork

  • Pelvic floor strengthening

  • Pelvic stability and hip mobility

  • Posture and balance work

Each session builds on the last, allowing your body to adapt and strengthen at the right pace.

More Than Just Exercise: Building Community

This isn’t just a Pilates class it’s a space for connection.

Over the 5 weeks, you’ll meet other mums navigating a similar stage of life. The course is designed to foster:

  • A sense of community and shared experience

  • Opportunities for friendship and support

  • A positive space for both mental and physical wellbeing

Plus, there’s a fabulous coffee shop right next door to enjoy together after class, if you choose.

Because recovery isn’t just about your body it’s about feeling like yourself again.

Come As You Are (With or Without Baby)

We know that stepping into a class postnatally can feel daunting, but there is absolutely no pressure here—ever.

  • No need to worry about how you look (forget the Pilates princess nonsense, that’s not us)

  • No expectations of “fitness levels”

• • Bring your baby along, or take time just for yourself

Bubba is always welcome, but never required. It is totally up to you.

Just show up as you are, and know you’ll receive the warmest welcome from both Shauni and the Vagabond Pilates community.
